Bernier made his senior debut for Canada in a November 2003 friendly match against the Czech Republic. He played in 14 consecutive Canada matches from 2004 to 2006 including in the 2004 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
